In Phoenix/Ahwatukee for 10 weeks and we've been ripped off 3 times

I am having a very emotional night. We moved to AZ on August 1st 2007. While staying at the Residence Inn Chandler our Mobile Fashion Boutique was broken into and they stole a bunch of merchandise within the first 5 days we were here. Two weeks ago, at our house in Ahwatukee, someone smashed out my car window in my driveway and stole my wallet from inside my console. Stolen were my credit cards, cash and drivers license. At 6:00pm today, a young girl, looked about 15, came to my house selling magazines for a soccer team fundraiser. She said she lived a couple of doors down. I invited her in while I looked at her selection. She was here for a good 20 minutes. I even called my 15 year old daughter downstairs to meet her thinking they might become friends. My 5 year old made the girl a picture while we talked. Even though times are tight I wrote the girl a check for a subscription to Elle for $34. She asked me for a bottle of water which I got for her then she left. I noticed a check had been ripped out of my checkbook, leaving a top corner of it behind. She stole a check out of my checkbook. To make a long story short, I called the police and her and another girl pulled the same scam on someone a couple of hours earlier. Two young girls, that don't look a day over 15. I really am beside myself. I lived in Ohio for 38 years and was never a victim of crime even once. I have been here 2.5 months and have been stolen from 3 times. I really want to go home to Cleveland (Mentor) now. If I stay here I'm going to have to teach my kids that they really can't trust anyone and have to constantly be on guard. The cops told us that this really is a good part of town. If this is the good part of town, I'd hate to see the bad part of town.

Things I love about Phoenix / Ahwatukee

There are so many great things to discover about Phoenix / Ahwatukee. Some of my favorites so far:

Soma Cafe on Chandler Blvd-This place has awesome food and coffee drinks. All of their menu items are low fat and have the calorie & fat breakdown right on the menu. Their baked sweet potato fries are awesome as is everything else we've tried on the menu.

China Lite Restaurant on Chandler Blvd-Low fat chinese food that's delicious? Yes! I'm in heaven!!

Kyrene Schools-After so much research, we chose our rental house based on where we wanted the kids to attend school. It was a great choice!! So far, we absolutely love Kyrene schools. If you're moving to the Phoenix area I would do your research at http://www.greatschools.net/ and find the schools you like. Next, do an MLS search based upon that school district. There are many awesome schools here in Phoenix/Ahwatukee.

Great customer service at Residence Inn at Chandler Fashion Square

My family and I are settling in to life here in Phoenix. So far, we really love it. It's been super hot but we're getting used to it. As much as we hate the Cleveland winters, we should be able to handle the heat without a problem. We've been staying at a Residence Inn while we wait for our furniture to arrive from Ohio. It's been a little cramped with all of us in one suite but I must say, I have never had a better experience at a hotel. They have treated us like gold. They have a wonderful breakfast bar, a great pool and hot tub and the customer service is the best I have ever experienced. For example, I was in the pool the other night with the kids and the clerk brought out an armload of floats, dive sticks,and balls for us to play with. I had a hard time with the internet the other night and called the front desk to ask who to call about it. The next morning the manager called me to make sure everything was taken care of. That kind of service makes this Residence Inn a great place to stay.

Had the best time at Fahrenheit in Tremont on Saturday

This past Saturday, 6/23/07, we had Shop Sublime's Mobile Fashion Boutique outside Fahrenheit Restaurant in Cleveland's Tremont Neighborhood. Words can not describe how much my husband and I enjoyed ourselves there. First of all, Chef Rocco Whalen and his entire staff were SO GOOD to us. From the moment we arrived, everyone treated us like family. Ross, Shannon, Rocco, and everyone else at Fahrenheit were as sweet as someone could possibly be. The food was also amazing. My husband had the 4 Cheese Ravioli (4 Cheese Ravioli, Pancetta, Roasted Peppers, Basil Butter) and I ordered the Lobster Cavatelli (Baked Lobster Cavatelli, Lobster Cognac Reduction, Stewed Tomato, Parmesan). They were both delicious beyond words. Each bite was better than the next. For dessert we shared a Blood Orange Cupcake. It was a perfect ending to a perfect meal. I want to truly thank the Fahrenheit staff for being so wonderful. We can't wait to come back.
